Volunteering

Guildford has some of the best and most diverse parks, open spaces, woodlands, commons and countryside areas in the south-east.  To make sure they stay that way for the communities that use them we like to involve you in all we do.

We are always looking for volunteers who are interested in helping manage our countryside.  There is a vast range of work to do from coppicing, tree planting, woodland and grassland management to surveying and monitoring flora.

Are you interested in joining a new mid-week volunteer group?
These groups help our Countryside Wardens achieve conservation tasks.  Joining one of these groups is a great opportunity to meet people, keep fit and learn new skills.

Meeting twice a month, we work on our woodland, wetland, grassland and heathland sites throughout Guildford.  This winter we will carry out important coppicing, scrub clearance and ride widening work, to improve habitats for wildlife and for visitors enjoyment.  All tools are provided, so all you need to bring is a packed lunch.

We also have volunteer tasks planned throughout the year.  Any queries on what we get up to, when to meet or what to bring, please contact us using the details at the bottom of this page.

  • Get out into the Countryside
  • Get Fit without thinking about it
  • Meet people from all backgrounds
  • Learn Countryside crafts/skills
  • Have fun!

Join the Countryside Team for a day, half-a-day, or even drop in for an hour, every little helps!

Please contact us using the detals at the bottom of this page for further information on becoming a countryside volunteer.

We have many Friends Groups, conservation volunteer days and other initiatives to get you involved.

There are a number of very active groups within the borough.  A list of these groups, their areas of interest and contact details are shown below.

Normandy Parish Council formed a committee some years ago to restore the village pond, for more information visit the Normandy Parish Council website (this page opens in a new window) .  This is one example of how the local community can come together and make a real difference to the environment and community they live in.
