The National Grid Tree Warden Scheme is a national initiative to enable people to play an active role in conserving and enhancing their local trees and woods. The scheme was founded by the Tree Council and we coordinate it in partnership with The National Grid Company.
Tree wardens are volunteers are appointed by parish councils or other community organisations. These volunteers gather information about their local trees, get involved in local tree matters and encourage local practical projects to do with trees and woods.
The Surrey Tree Warden Scheme has a Steering Committee who represent the views of all the tree wardens in Surrey. Visit their website using the link below.

The Lingfield Reserves Tree Book
One very successful project created and managed by a community and tree wardens are the Lingfield Reserves which consist of two adjoining public nature reserves near the centre of Lingfield, in Surrey.
They published a book in July 2005 which is a supplement to and an expansion of the leaflet for their tree trail. The book was designed to answer the kind of questions that occur to people as they walk around the trail or afterwards.
Aimed mainly at adults and older children the book is a great resource for parents, teachers and group leaders. There is an appendix containing suggestions on linking the material to National Curriculum topics for Key Stages 1 and 2.
It is 36 A4 pages in size, illustrated throughout and with a soft cover, published by Eden River Press
The book costs £2.00 a copy and you can have it sent to you at a cost of £2.60 a copy (including postage and packing). To find out more visit the link below.
