Play Strategy

'A Time and Place for Play' A Play Strategy for Guildford
Between 2003 and 2004 Guildford Borough Council adopted three separate strategies covering different aspects of play and facilities for young people.

  1. Play Development Strategy for Guildford Borough
  2. Guildford Borough Council Fixed Equipment Playground Strategy
  3. Guildford Borough Youth Facilities Strategy

Each of these strategies could be used separately and still achieve their aims, but this would not necessarily ensure that:

  1. appropriate priority was given to each action
  2. projects were integrated where appropriate to save resources
  3. a full, clear, cross cutting agenda was produced and followed
  4. enabling partnerships, both within and externally to the Council were fully considered

So these three strategies have been combined to produce one coherent document: 'A Time and Place for Play' A Play Strategy for Guildford [PDF] (227k).  This links to the play development action plan 2008 [PDF] (112k).  This will provide a framework for the development of play and youth facilities within the Borough for children and young people aged 3-18 years.

The life cycle of this strategy expires in 2010. Between endorsement and 2010 the Play Strategy will be reviewed on an annual basis.  Particular emphasis will be given to updating priorities, current provision and a revision of the needs analysis.
