Guidance notes
Licence conditions
Each street trading licence issued by the local authority is subject to standard licence conditions, relating to matters such as:
- The name of the person who may trade
- The goods that may be sold
- The exact site where trading may take place
- The days and times when trading can take place
- Displaying the licence holders name and licence number
- Employment of school children
- Heating and lighting arrangements
- Disposal of rubbish
Application process
Applying for the service
The applicant will need to provide evidence of a Public Liability Insurance and that your business is registered with the local authority for sale of food, if this is applicable. Two passport size photographs, with the applicant's signature on the back must also be provided.
Processing time
Persons wanting one of these sites may be put on the local authority's waiting list but because sites rarely become available it may be several years before a site is offered and then that site may not necessarily be suitable for the goods being proposed to be sold.
Appeals process
If the application is refused or revoked the applicant may discuss the application with the appropriate council officers. Other than Judicial Review there is no statutory right of appeal against the council's decision.
