Restrictions
Street trading licences can only be issued for sites that have been designated as licence sites. The trade must be more than seven meters away from the highway if the applicant does not have an agreement with the owner or if the applicant does not own the land in the case of a private market.
Consent may not be granted when adverse comments are received from the consulted parties.
Consent will not be granted where there is a risk to road safety or possibility of a nuisance being created.
Exemptions
A licence is not required if:
- Trading as a peddler under licence issued by a police authority
- A market trader operating at a licensed market venue
- A news vendor selling only newspapers and periodicals
- If you are trading on private land you may not need consent.
