New look for Bridge Street subway

Wednesday 14 November, 2007

Bridge Street subway, which links the railway station to the centre of Guildford's one-way system, has a fresh new look.

The surfaces of the subway have been sand blasted and a new anti-graffiti paint scheme added. The work is thanks to the Subway Working Group, which is made up of Guildford Borough Council, Surrey County Council and Surrey Police.

Cllr Jenny Wicks, Lead Councillor for Environment, says: "This project is just one of a number completed by the Subway Working Group. The improvements mean that residents and visitors can now enjoy a cleaner, brighter path into the town centre. The use of anti-graffiti paint will also help to maintain the new look in the future."

Earlier projects completed by the group include lighting improvements at Haydon Place subway and the refurbishment of Friary Passage.

For more information about this and other projects visit the environmental improvements pages.

This initiative is part of Guildford Borough Council's commitment to improving residents’ local surroundings, by focusing on issues that matter most to them such as a cleaner, safer and greener environment.
