Guildford Borough Council is advising local companies to continue to pay their business rates as normal following a change to the Government's planned 5% increase.
A revised increase of 2% for this year, followed by 3% over the next two years was announced by the Government today (Wednesday 1 April 2009). Business rate bills for 2009/10 have already been sent to local businesses by Guildford Borough Council, who collect these rates on behalf of the Government.
Guildford Borough Council will contact each local business during the next few weeks to confirm the change and give them more information. In the meantime, all businesses should pay their issued rates bills as normal. This advice follows Government guidance to local councils and businesses.
