Calling all local artists! Guildford Borough Council in partnership with the Guildford Magazine and Hamptons International Estate Agency are looking for paintings by local artists to feature in the 2009 Guildford calendar. This is your chance to market your talents and showcase the borough’s stunning scenery.
The artist of the winning painting will receive £1,000 prize money donated by Hamptons International. Carol Cordrey, Art Editor of the Guildford Magazine and John Robertson, owner of the Bourne Gallery will judge the entries and select the overall winner plus eleven others to feature in the calendar.
Cllr Jen Powell, Lead Councillor for People and Partnership comments: "This is a wonderful opportunity for local artists to paint their favourite landmark or landscape that will provide the judges with some inspirational images from which to choose. The Guildford calendar has always been popular and this is down to the calibre of the entries we receive. It is a favourite to send to friends and family overseas."
The paintings should be of a recognisable scene within the borough. Artists can paint their favourite landmark or landscape in any season, using any paint medium. The paintings selected for the calendar will be on show to the public at the Brew House, Guildford House Gallery from 9 to 13 September 2008.
All paintings must be no larger than A3 size, unframed and landscape in dimension. Entries must be submitted to Guildford House Gallery between 10am -12pm on Thursday 24 July 2008.
Entry forms are available from Guildford Tourist Information Centre 14, Tunsgate or the Council Offices in Millmead. Any enquiries should be directed to Carol Cordrey by email at carol@artalone.com.
The calendar will be released later this year and you will be able to buy your copy from the Tourist Information Centre, Guildford House Gallery and other local outlets.
