Work starts on cleansing nominations

23 August, 2006

An additional team of council cleansing staff will hit the streets of Guildford at the end of this month to tackle areas residents have nominated for an extra clean.

Residents have asked for different kinds of help from litter picking and sweeping up leaves to cutting back vegetation and putting in additional litterbins. Requests have been prioritised and work will start on Tuesday 29 August.

Cllr Terence Patrick, Lead Councillor for Healthy Living, says:

"It is great to be able to respond directly to use our resources in the way local residents want us to. We will be taking action to deal with as many nominations as we can, and will continue to work hard to ensure Guildford remains a clean and pleasant town for residents and visitors to enjoy."

The additional cleansing team will be working in a number of areas, including:

  • Ash - footpath from Ash Station to Ash Green Road
  • Park Barn - Greville Close
  • Shere/ Gomshall - A25 footpath
  • Ash Vale - Lakeside Road
  • Guildford Town Centre

This initiative is part of Guildford Borough Council's commitment to improving residents’ local surroundings, by focusing on issues that matter most to them such as a cleaner, safer and greener environment.
