A recycling angel, live blues and free compost are all on the menu at the third annual Compost Heaven event in Guildford on Saturday 10 May. Visitors to the event, organised by Guildford Community Recyclers with support from Guildford Borough Council and Guildford Allotment Society, can expect a great green day out at Burchatts Farm Barn.
Cllr Jenny Wicks, Lead Councillor for Environment says: "Last year over 1500 people visited Compost Heaven to pick up tips about home composting with over 400 Guildford residents taking away free compost and composters. This year’s attractions include renewable energy demonstrations, bee keeping, children’s activities and free cake! Why not drop in and see what tips you can pick up to make your garden look great this summer?"
The Council's Parks and Countryside team have created an innovative eco garden to show how gardeners can adapt to changing climate, incorporate a composter into a border, save water and attract wildlife. Weather permitting, visitors can watch Tamara Froud from Art Mosaic Design install a mosaic in the garden.
Charlie Cross-Gurnell from Loseley garden will have wormeries on display and compost experts will be on hand to answer questions. Don’t forget to bring your old hand tools for refurbishment and reuse in developing countries (no electrical items please).
Children can Hunt the Bug in freshly harvested compost, make cards from recycled papers or have their face painted - all for free. With over twenty stalls and live acoustic blues/jazz, Compost Heaven will be the most fun environmentalists can expect this year!
Compost Heaven takes place at Burchatts Farm Barn, London Road, Guildford, on Saturday 10 May between 11am and 2 pm. Call Jane Alexander on 01483 444499 for further details.
