Farmers' Market returns to Guildford

24 August 2007

The largest weekday farmers' market in the South East is making a welcome return to Guildford High Street on Tuesday 4 September.

The August farmers' market was cancelled by organisers Guildford Borough Council to help prevent the spread of foot and mouth disease, following advice from Surrey Trading Standards.

Cllr Andrew Hodges, Leader of the Council, says: "Thankfully, although a number of farms in the borough were directly affected, it looks as though the situation is now improving and we have been advised by Surrey Trading Standards that we can go ahead with the September farmers' market. Although there are still restrictions on the sale of some meat products, we are hoping that most of our producers will be able to attend. Farmers' markets are an important source of income for local farmers and food producers and we are keen to get the Guildford market back up and running as soon as possible."

The popular market gives people the chance to stock up with high quality, locally produced fare, including seasonal fruit and vegetables, meat, cheese, fish, eggs, baked goods, preserves, wine, beer, cider, plants and crafts at over 60 stalls.

The farmers' market will be held in Guildford High Street on Tuesday 4 September from 10.30am to 3.30pm. For more information, visit the Farmers' Market pages.
