The Environment Agency has issued a Flood Watch for the River Wey within Guildford Borough. Residents or businesses should ring the Environment Agency floodline for up to date information and advice on 0845 988 1188 or go to their website at www.environment-agency.gov.uk (this page opens in a new window).
Guildford Borough Council is in contact with the Environment Agency and is taking precautionary measures to provide sandbags at locations throughout the borough. Bedford Road Car Park in the town centre is closed.
If there is a serious risk of flooding to your property, sandbags can be collected from the sites listed below. Sandbags weigh approximately 25kgs so care is needed when lifting and carrying them.
If you cannot collect sandbags please contact Guildford Borough Council’s Sandbag Hotline on 01483 444500 to request a delivery from our drainage crew. Outside office hours call 01483 455091. Sandbags can also be requested online via the sandbag request form. Delivery times will vary during severe weather or if there are a high number of requests. The council will prioritise help according to the level of flood risk and the status of those concerned. The elderly and vulnerable and those at immediate risk of flooding will be prioritised.
It is unlikely that there will be widespread flooding in the borough. The River Wey is likely to flood further over the weekend if weather forecasts are correct and some rural areas may be affected.
More information on flooding and advice on how to protect your property can be found on the flooding pages.
