24 November 2009
Residents, businesses and other organisations have had the chance to comment on Guildford Borough Council's new, updated draft gambling policy and the review of the Council’s 2006 decision not to have any casinos in Guildford.
The consultation ended this month (November), and a total of 103 comments on the draft statement, now called a ‘statement of principles’, were received by the Council. This included 93 for its ‘no casino’ policy to be renewed and 4 wanting the ‘no casino’ policy to be lifted.
The results will be discussed at this week’s meeting of the Executive (26 November). The proposed recommendation is that the revised statement of principles is adopted and the Council does not issue casino premises licences in the borough. A final decision on the ‘no casino’ policy will be made by the Council on 3 December.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Andrew Hodges, comments: "The consultation process allows us to listen to the views put forward from all the different groups and individuals involved, and make an open and informed decision. The results have been examined thoroughly and will now be considered by the Executive".
