Pupils at George Abbot School have been busy transforming rubbish into fashion to celebrate Guildford Borough Council's kerbside collection of textiles.
Taking inspiration from the edgy, customised street fashion of Japan, the Year 9 pupils made unique garments out of recycled fabrics.
Cllr Jenny Wicks, Lead Councillor for Environment, says: "It is great to see pupils taking a creative approach to reducing our waste. Most borough households can now put textiles in a carrier bag next to their recycling bins, ready for collection. We collect around 5 tonnes of textiles per month. Cotton and wool produce the dangerous greenhouse gas methane in landfill, so recycling textiles is one step towards tackling climate change."
The finished fashion silhouettes will be on display at The Electric Theatre, Onslow Street over the summer.

This initiative is part of Guildford Borough Council's commitment to improving residents’ local surroundings, by focusing on issues that matter most to them such as a cleaner, safer and greener environment.
