Schools compete for designs on graffiti

22 October 2007

Pupils from schools in Guildford and Waverley are invited to get their creative juices flowing in a special art competition for designs to discourage graffiti - and win £500 for their school at the same time. Winning entries will be used as part of the joint campaign by Guildford and Waverley Borough Councils to help crack down on graffiti.

Head of Recycling, Cleansing and Parking Services, James Whiteman, explains: “We want to keep Guildford and Waverley’s streets and open spaces clean and graffiti free. We are inviting pupils from local schools to think about graffiti and the problems it causes, and design a poster, cartoon or computer graphic to help discourage it. Pupils can enter as many times as they like - so we hope they get designing and win a prize!”.

First prize is £500 for the school of the winning entry with two runners-up prizes of £100.  All winners will receive a goody bag and every pupil that enters will get a certificate. The best primary school entries will also win ‘talking penguin bins’ for their playgrounds.

Pupils can create their entries at home or school, and schools can send in as many entries as they like. Entries can be uploaded to our using the Schools Graffiti competition online form or sent to the Cleansing Education and Information Officer.
