From Hawaiian Christmas to Panto Parties, Guildford Venues have the bigger picture

The Christmas Season is fast approaching and members of Guildford’s Conference and Hospitality group are reporting increased party bookings and a few new trends!

While Christmas remains one of the busiest times of the year for many venues, some local businesses seem to be bucking the trend in favour of parties in January, taking advantage of the New Year’s special offers. Many Guildford venues are offering a more flexible service in the post Christmas period hoping to appeal to businesses that are just too busy in December. Becky Finch, Christmas Coordinator for the Manor House Hotel, comments:

“We have seen an increase in party bookings for December, however we are also seeing that more people are willing to wait and plan an event in January, forgoing the busy time and having something to look forward to in the New Year”.

Nicky Rooney, Events Manager, Loseley Park comments:

“Party bookings for December are as popular as ever but many companies are willing to consider alternatives dates. This is the first year that we have been promoting post Christmas parties and we have had a really positive response.  Retailers and health centres in particular are keen on this idea as it does not interfere with their key selling times in the lead up to Christmas.  This year we’re offering a post Christmas menu including a fork buffet with an oriental theme at £22.50 per person”.

Another growing trend for parties is theme nights, alternative ideas for this Christmas include a James Bond Casino Night and Wild Wild West Night as offered by the Manor House Hotel.  The Yvonne Arnaud Theatre has seen an increased demand for Panto Parties, from companies seeking to have canapés and champagne prior to the pantomime. Continuing with unusual themes, the University of Surrey has had requests for a laser shooting gallery, a bucking bronco simulator and beverages to be served from an ice sculpture luge!

Places are filling up quickly at the majority of venues, but there are still some bookings available. The HG Wells conference centre, Woking has spaces available for its Christmas party night on the 14th December, which includes a five-course dinner, drinks and entertainment at £40 per person.  The Ramada Hotel in Farnham is offering a table magician and disco as part of its Christmas package.

To avoid being left out in the cold this Christmas bookers should make use of the Conference and Hospitality Groups Venues Guide, an essential tool for planning events! Alternatively there is also a free venue location service provided by the Conference Desk on 01483 444339 or email tourism@guildford.gov.uk.
