Last night Guildford Borough Council agreed a council tax increase of 2.46% for 2009/10, which is thought to be the lowest increase in Surrey.
The increase is lower than last year (2.98% for 2008/09) and means that residents in a Band D property will only have to pay an extra penny a day for the wide range of services we provide.
Cllr Andrew Hodges, Leader of the Council, says: "We have worked hard to keep council tax bills as low as possible for our residents. Setting a balanced budget for 2009/10 has been extremely challenging in the current economic climate, but we are committed to providing the best value we can for our residents. We have also introduced new initiatives like our £200,000 Credit Crunch Fund and support for the Surrey Save Credit Union to help local residents and businesses during the recession."
Guildford Borough Council keeps only 10% of the overall council tax it collects in the annual bill sent to residents. The remainder is split between:
