Tuesday 6 November, 2007
Guildford will mark Remembrance Sunday differently this year, as it falls on Armistice Day, Sunday 11 November.
The Mayor of Guildford will join the civic procession and congregation at Holy Trinity Church on Sunday morning, and will appear at the north entrance to mark the two minutes silence at 11am.
A maroon will be fired from the castle grounds in the usual way to mark both the start and end of the two minutes. Businesses and shoppers traditionally come to a standstill in the town as a mark of respect.
Following the end of the church service, the civic procession, military procession and band will make their way to the Castle Grounds where wreaths will be laid at the war memorial.
Churches and other organisations throughout the borough will hold Remembrance Sunday services.
