Security for the public in Guildford’s car parks continues to increase. Guildford Borough Council has just been awarded the Safer Car Parking Award for three more car parks. These latest awards bring the total number of Council car parks with the quality mark to 22.
Says Lead Councillor for Community Safety, Cllr David Wright: "This is great news for residents, workers and shoppers in Guildford. We have some of the safest car parks in the country and these awards mean all our major car parks and two park and ride sites now have the quality mark".
With the aim of deterring and preventing crime, the Safer Car Parking Awards recognise the Council's success in improving safety, security, maintenance and accessibility. This includes lighting, CCTV, regular patrols, on-going redecoration and graffiti removal.
During the inspection assessors from the British Parking Association found levels of crime continue to be extremely low in the borough's car parks.
"The awards are also a great result for the Council's parking team and means their hard work and dedication has been recognised," adds Cllr Wright.
The latest car parks to gain the award are Bedford Road surface car park, Portsmouth Road car park and Merrow park and ride (opened September last year).
This initiative is part of Guildford Borough Council's commitment to improving residents' local surroundings, by focusing on issues that matter most to them such as a cleaner, safer and greener environment.
