Schools set to save with energy scheme

24 October, 2007

Schools across Guildford Borough are set to benefit from energy savings thanks to a scheme run by the council and part funded by Allianz Insurance.

The Energy Centre for Sustainable Communities has been working for the council to offer energy services to schools. The centre will give advice on installing renewable energy sources, such as solar thermal, and how to reduce energy use.

Tim Pilsbury, Climate Change Manager at the council, says: "We hope this work will encourage schools to adopt an energy policy, help to educate children in energy issues and inspire the wider school community to reduce their own energy use."

The new initiative follows a pilot scheme at four local schools, which confirmed that worthwhile cost savings can be made. It will enable more schools to get involved with this work and also help the council achieve the aims of its Climate Change Strategy.

This initiative is part of Guildford Borough Council's commitment to improving residents’ local surroundings, by focusing on issues that matter most to them such as a cleaner, safer and greener environment.
