A key pedestrian footbridge that crosses the A3 and Midleton Road has been given a new look thanks to Guildford Borough Council's projects and conservation team.
The bridge, adjacent to The Wooden Bridge pub, now has new lighting to brighten up the walkway and columns. A second phase of work, due to start in the new year in partnership with Surrey County Council, will see improvements to the landscaping and general appearance of this important access route to the town.
Cllr Jenny Wicks, Lead Councillor for Environment, says: "Local residents suggested that the footbridge would benefit from improvements in a consultation held during the development of the nearby Queen Elizabeth Park (QEP) site. The scheme is part funded by the QEP development and is also part of the council's lighting strategy. This strategy aims to increase community safety, improve Guildford's natural and built environment, avoid light pollution and complement the street lighting work of Surrey County Council."
