Guildford residents are amongst the most active in the country- that's the finding of the Active People Survey carried out by Sport England.
The survey found that 26% of residents regularly participate in a sport 3 times a week for at least 30 minutes. This puts Guildford in the top 10 local authorities in the South East, and in the top 25% of authorities throughout the country. The amount of people who volunteer to support sports clubs is also higher than the national average. Cllr Terence Patrick, Lead Member for Healthy Living, says:
"It is encouraging to see that many Guildford residents are regularly taking part in sports and recreation to lead a healthy and active lifestyle."
Guildford is home to a wide range of sporting facilities, including the award-winning Guildford Spectrum, where visitors have the opportunity to try out a variety of sports. The strong sporting community in Guildford, home to a number of local clubs, is supported by Sports Guildford, which acts as a forum for their interests.
