Have you been involved with a project which has helped improve the heritage, architecture or sustainability of Guildford? Do you know of a restored or new building, or one that features public art or creative lighting? Perhaps your business has recently reduced its carbon footprint?

If so Guildford Borough Council would like to hear from you as the Guildford Design Awards open for entry. The awards are open to businesses, schools and colleges, community groups and individuals in the borough. Categories include new building design, refurbishment and conservation projects, environmental sustainability, environmental improvements and young designer.

Cllr Jenny Wicks, Lead Councillor for Environment says: "We are lucky to live in a borough which is blessed with a rich heritage of well-designed buildings. These awards recognise the steps taken by current designers and architects to ensure that the buildings of the future blend successfully with the local environment. Many new developments are now designed to minimise their environmental impact and we want to encourage people to think carefully about the importance of good design."

All entries must be within the borough and projects must have been completed between 4 June 2007 and 5 June 2009.

The closing date for entries is Friday 5 June. Entries will be judged by an independent panel and winners will be announced at a ceremony later this year.
