Keeping visitors warm the ‘green’ way this winter, an environmentally friendly wood fuel heating system has been installed in Guildford’s Greenark centre, thanks to funding from Guildford Borough Council, EDF Energy and Surrey County Council.
Lead Councillor for Environment, Cllr Jenny Wicks, explains: “The new boiler demonstrates how green energy can be easily incorporated into community buildings. Not only will it will help to reduce CO2 emissions, but is uses logs harvested from our own woodlands as part of routine land management by our countryside team”.
Located in Lido Road, the Greenark doubles as a community hall and education centre for recycling, composting, renewable energy, water conservation, allotment and conservation gardening. The automated log boiler will provide central heating and hot water for the centre using wood from council-owned land.
“The new thermostatically controlled system will maintain the Greenark’s heating needs all year round,“ adds Cllr Wicks.
This initiative is part of Guildford Borough Council's commitment to improving residents’ local surroundings, by focusing on issues that matter most to them such as a cleaner, safer and greener environment.
