Pupils from Boxgrove Primary School enjoyed a two-hour drama workshop this week, as part of the first anniversary celebration of the opening of Guildford’s award-winning hydro project.

Local schoolchildren can learn about the benefits of renewable energy and how electricity is generated in a series of hydro drama workshops run by the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre and Guildford Borough Council.

This exciting initiative, aimed at pupils aged nine to eleven, is run at The Mill Studio and includes a visit to the award-winning hydro project at the Toll House. The workshops are possible thanks partly to the grant awarded from EDF Energy's Green Fund to help fund the installation of the hydro project and associated educational schemes.

Cllr Jenny Wicks, Lead Councillor of Environment, says: "We are delighted to be working with the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre and EDF Energy on this project and in promoting sustainable energy to children with a fun educational programme. These drama workshops are a fantastic way for children to learn more about their environment and appreciate water as a valuable resource. The hydro project has already won a number of prestigious environmental awards in its first year and the scheme is a real example of what can be done in a practical way to reduce carbon emissions and address the problem of climate change.”
