Children and young people throughout Guildford will benefit from better facilities, thanks to a grant awarded to Guildford Borough Council by the Big Lottery Fund. The new projects will help promote fitness and provide more opportunities for play within deprived communities.
Cllr Vas Kapsalis, Lead Cllr for Communications and Human Resources comments: "We are delighted that we have been successful in our application to the Big Lottery Fund's Children's Play scheme. The funding will help provide services for a wide range of children and young people throughout the borough, giving them accessible and safe opportunities for play. Guildford Borough Council is committed to reaching as many young people as we can and over 5000 individuals will now benefit from better access to facilities and improved fitness."
The grant of £198,472 from the Big Lottery Fund's Childrens' Play Programme will fund four new projects within the borough including:
-
a teenage recreation site at Stoughton Recreation ground including a site for children's cycling
-
a new multi-use games area for teenagers at Waterside Road near Slyfield
-
an exercise trail in Stoke Park to help improve the health of young people
The projects will provide more inclusive opportunities for play and involve older children more in planning and play provision within the borough.
