Mayor rewards community service

The Mayor of Guildford has celebrated the work of 25 ‘community stars’ in the borough by presenting them with the Mayor’s Award for Community Service. Mayor of Guildford, Cllr Mike Nevins handed out the awards at a special ceremony last weekend at the Guildhall.

The Mayor of Guildford, Councillor Mike Nevins says: “All of those receiving awards were nominated by people whose lives have been touched by their kindness and generosity of spirit. I am delighted to be able to recognise the tremendous contribution that they have made within our local community.”

Two posthumous awards, for Ron Douglas and Ron and Emily Snape were also presented to relatives. In paying tribute to their memory Cllr Nevins adds: “It is an honour to be able to present these posthumous awards to family members, but more importantly it demonstrates that their legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of all those who were lucky enough to have known them.”


Gaynor White, Parish Clerk at Worplesdon Parish Council who received an award for her work on helping achieve Quality Parish status for Worplesdon comments: “I was thrilled and delighted to receive the Mayor’s Award for Community Service from the Mayor Mike Nevins on Saturday. It was a privilege to witness members of the community being recognised for their hard work and dedication to others.”

Eric Barker, Mary Boxall, Robert and Retta Casbard, Edna Chittleburgh, Craig Chitty, Nadine Callum, Barbara Douglas, Cathy Goddard, Edwin (Ted) Goldup, John Green, Ben Jeffery, Garry Jones, Nerina King, Vince Locatelli, Sean Lyttle, Reginald C Miles, Fred & Jean Parker, Shirley Pullen, Julie Ragless, Edith Roberts, Jane Turner and Gaynor White. Mr and Mrs Douglas Snape were also present to receive an award on behalf of Mr Douglas’ parents.
