Visitors to the council offices at Millmead can now see two different types of solar panels in use.
The panels, which have been installed at Millmead Lodge, demonstrate the two most popular solar thermal panels for heating water. The installation of a solar water heating system can reduce harmful carbon emissions by 7% to 13% (depending on the fuel replaced and the age of your home) and also provide a saving on energy bills. Although solar systems require an initial investment for installation, they can provide 50% to 70% of the hot water needed in a home. Cllr Jenny Wicks, Lead Councillor for Environment, says:
"The solar panels at Millmead Lodge show visitors how easy they are to install. The council is committed to the use of renewable energy sources and to combatting climate change. This project is just one of the energy initiatives we are involved in."
Getting the right advice before installing a solar panel heating system will ensure residents get value for money and the most out of their new system.
Guildford Borough Council offers interest-free loans of up to £1500 to help spread the cost of installation work, and grants of up to £400 are available from central government. For more information call 01483 444302.
