2 April 2008
A new, round-the-clock service run by Guildford Borough Council is set to make reporting stray dogs easier than before. From 6 April 2008, residents will be able to report strays directly to the Borough Council - day or night - and they will no longer be able to take them to the police station.
Explains Cllr Terence Patrick, Lead Councillor for Healthy Living: “Up until now anyone who found a dog would report it to the Council during office hours and the police out of hours. This new streamlined service will mean our dog warden and kennels will be able to provide a more comprehensive service, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
Says the Council’s dog warden Peter Burnage: “Stray dogs are not just those abandoned by their owners, they also include escaped family pets as well as those let out by their owners to exercise themselves rather than being walked. Dog owners can help by making sure their gardens and homes are secure and that their dogs have collars with tags and are micro chipped”.
To report a stray dog please ring 01483 444765 during office hours, and 01483 564821 outside office hours including weekends and public holidays.
This initiative is part of Guildford Borough Council's commitment to improving residents’ local surroundings, by focusing on issues that matter most to them such as a cleaner, safer and greener environment.
