Are you a budding musician with nowhere to play? Want to find out what it’s like to run the council for a day, or win tickets to the Odeon or Spectrum? Young people in the borough can now find out the answer to these questions for themselves (and enter the competition) thanks to a new section of the borough council’s website dedicated to young people’s interests and needs.
Lead Councillor for Communications and Personnel, Cllr Vas Kapsalis, comments:
“We have had feedback in the past that our website has been better suited to the needs of adult members of the community. We have always provided direct services for young people, and this new website section will ensure that young people can find out what’s going on in their area and discover how politics directly effects them and their rights. They can also browse study and work options, and link to other relevant help and advice organisations”.
Cllr Jennifer Powell, Lead Councillor for People and Partnerships highlights the importance of providing a web facility for young people.
“Guildford offers a broad range of activities and facilities for young people and it is important that they have this information at their finger tips. Young people are generally at ease with using the internet, so it is an ideal way to tell them about what’s going on and hear their feedback. I hope they enjoy using the Young people web section and spread the word.”
People can visit the new Young people section and:
- join clubs
- find out about sports in the borough
- check out future gigs and events
- get activity ideas
- make their views heard.
To mark the launch of Young people, a special online competition to win five tickets to the Odeon cinema in Guildford is running until 31 December 2006, with a second prize of five tickets to Spectrum's Ice Xtreme ice-skating disco. To enter, young people aged 11 to 19 years should visit Young people and send in their top ideas for the new web section.
