Ways to pay
- Online
Pay online (this page opens in a new window) by debit or credit card.
Please note that this facility is unavailable from 6.30pm to 6.45pm every day.
- Automated Telephone Payments (ATP)
You can pay over the telephone – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 01483 444455.

- Direct debit
You can pay by direct debit (request a form using the contact details below).
- Standing order
You can arrange with your bank to pay by standing order.
- Online banking
If you bank online you can arrange your payments electronically.
- Cheque
You can also pay by post - send a cheque payable to Guildford Borough Council to our Millmead offices (address below) with your reference number on the back.
- HSBC in North Street (after 24 December 2009)
You can pay at the Council’s bank – HSBC in North Street. Note - there is no extra charge to you for paying in cash for council tax or rent. Google map (this page opens in a new window).
With all these payment methods you will need to remember to quote your reference number.
Paying at the post office
You can also make payments at the Post Office. The main Guildford branch in Guildford High Street is open from 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Saturday. Google map (this page opens in a new window).
- If you are paying your rent you can pay in cash or by cheque. If you do not have a bank account and want to continue to pay for your rent in cash you will need to get a payment card from us. Call 01483 444004. You can then pay for your rent in cash at any Post Office after our cash office counter closes. There is no charge for this service.
- If you are paying for council tax you can pay in cash by cheque. You will need to complete a Transcash payment slip and quote the Credit account number 443 9805 along with your council tax account number.
- If you need to pay other money to the Council (called debtors) you can pay in cash or by cheque at the post office. Again, remember to add your reference number.
Please note the Post Office will charge you an additional £2.40 for each transaction.
Payments by card
Paying by debit card is free. If you pay by credit card you will be charged commission at 1.8% for internet transactions or 1.3% if you use the ATP service. (However, please note there is no charge when using your credit card to pay for parking fines.) We accept; Mastercard, Debit Mastercard, Maestro, Visa, Delta, Visa Electron.
