Information on Local Development Frameworks (LDFs)
The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 (this page opens in a new window) introduced this new type of plan called a Local Development Framework (LDF). A LDF is made up of a series of documents called Local Development Documents (LDDs).
LDDs provide the planning framework for the consideration of planning applications by the council. They replace the previous system of plan making, which comprised Local Plans and Structure Plans. The Guildford Borough Local Plan 2003 and the Surrey Structure Plan 2004 will continue to be saved for a transitional period until September 2007. After this date the Guildford Development Framework will be in place which will contain both new Local Development Documents and saved Local Plan policies and documents to guide future development up to 2018.
Saving Local Plan policies and resulting changes to the Local Plan
The Council received a Direction from the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government on 24 September 2007. This outlines which Guildford Borough Local Plan 2003 policies would remain in effect beyond 27 September 2007 and those which would expire after this date. This Direction can be viewed from the Local Plan page.
