Information about the Vehicle Parking Standards SPD
- It was adopted by the Council on 7 September 2006.
- It is a material planning consideration.
- It clarifies and expands upon existing policies of the adopted Local Plan 2003, in particular Policy G1 (1) Parking Provision and M1 Parking Provision. Draft policy CP26 ‘Parking Provision’ of the Core Strategy Preferred Options will address this issue in the future.
- It replaces Appendix 1 Parking Standards of the Guildford Borough Local Plan 2003.
- It makes changes to the residential parking standards inside and outside the Guildford town centre parking boundary. Most standards are broadly in line with what was there previously, there have been minor changes such as adding A4 (drinking establishments) and A5 (takeaways) uses.
Public Participation During the Preparation of the SPD
- A public consultation on the SPD ran from 21 April 2006 to 2 June 2006.
- The consultation undertaken was compliant with Section 17(3) in Part 5 of the Town and Country Planning (Local Development) (England) Regulations 2004.
- 28 responses were received (available from the link below)
- The draft Vehicle Parking Standards SPD was updated in light of the comments received to produce a final version.

Sustainability Appraisal (SA)
- The SA of the draft SPD was undertaken in March 2006.
- It recommended a number of changes to the first draft of the SPD, which were mostly incorporated into the consultation draft SPD.
