Regional planning policy

The South East Plan:

The South East Plan is the new regional planning document (the regional spatial strategy) that will shape future development.  It sets out a vision and strategy for the future of the South East Region to 2026.  The plan outlines how the South East needs to respond to the challenges facing the region such as housing and economic needs, transport and protecting the environment.  The aim is to ensure that the South East remains economically successful and an attractive place to live for future generations.

Following the publication of the South East Plan (SEP) (this page opens in a new window)  by the Government on 6 May 2009 Guildford Borough Council has decided to challenge the plan in the High Court. To find out more information please visit our South East Plan page.  The South East Plan has replaced the Surrey Structure Plan.

Guildford Borough is split across two of the South East Plan sub-regions: the 'London Fringe' and the 'Western Corridor Blackwater Valley'.  In addition to the broad policies of the South East Plan that apply to all of our borough, in these sub-regions different and more detailed requirements are also set out.  The south east portion of the borough lies in the 'rest of the region' area outside of any sub-region.  Where the borough lies in relation to these sub-regions can be seen on the South East Plan sub-regions and Guildford Borough map [PDF] (130k).

Regional Economic Strategy:

The strategy sets a course for the region's economy to 2016 and can be downloaded from the South East England Development Agency website (this page opens in a new window).

Regional Strategy:

To learn about the new regional strategy that will, in the future, bring together both the South East Plan and the Regional Economic Strategy please visit the South East England Partnership Board website (this page opens in a new window)

Mineral and waste policy and plans
Surrey County Council is preparing the Surrey Waste and Mineral Development Framework.  In May 2008 three documents of the Surrey Waste Development Framework were adopted.  Part of the Mineral framework is due to be submitted to the government in 2010.
