Built in the 1750s for Admiral Boscawen and set in 430 acres of Repton park and woodland offering a variety of way-marked walks, Hatchlands contains splendid interiors by Robert Adam and the Cobbe Collection, the world's largest group of keyboard instruments associated with famous composers, e.g. Purcell, J C Bach, Chopin, Mahler and Elgar. There is also a small garden by Gertrude Jekyll (flowering late May to early July), plus a shop and licensed restaurant in the attractive cobbled courtyard.

  • House Open from 1 April to 28October; Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Mondays (and Fridays in August) 2.00pm - 5.30pm
  • Walks Open daily from 1 April to 28 October 11.00am and 6.00pm

Tours

There are no guided tours but audio tours of house and keyboard instruments may be hired (Standard and Basic language versions) £2.00 (including N.T. members).


Facilities

  • Licensed Restaurant seating 50 plus outside seating when the weather is fine. Open from 11.00 same days as house.
  • Gift Shop open 1.00 pm - 5.00 pm same days as house.


Facilities for disabled visitors

Electric buggy service available from car park to house. Access to ground floor, terrace and part of garden. WC. Wheelchair available. Access to shop and restaurant in courtyard for wheelchair users.


Time

Allow up to 45 minutes for house and up to two hours for park walks.


Educational visits

Quizzes for both house and garden.


Coach parking

Coaches park in the main visitors car park 300 metres from house. Free entry and cup of tea for coach driver.


Directions

East of East Clandon, on the A246 Guildford to Leatherhead road. Approx. 5 miles east of Guildford.
