The Shere shop, a gift shop in the town was actually turned into the Waverley café for the film.

Filming also took place in the nearby market town of Godalming. Church Street was closed while filming took place and many shop fronts were redesigned to make them look like they were in Shere.

Unable to find a suitable house for Kate Winslet’s character, they built a temporary one in an open field.  People later tried to buy it but it was eventually taken down.
