A hostel purpose built in 1935 as a ‘model’ hostel, Holmbury St. Mary stands in 2 and a half acres of grounds in the Surrey Hills area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the very edge of 4,000 acres of open access countryside and woodland with orienteering facilities. The location is rural, yet it is only 30 miles from central London and 18 miles from Gatwick Airport. The hostel has a treasure hunt and mountain bikes and walks can be arranged locally.
The hostel provides comfortable accommodation in mainly 2 and 4 bunk bedded rooms. Bunk bedded rooms can be made available for sole use by families, subject to availability.

In addition Holmbury St. Mary Youth Hostel offers the following facilities:

  • Full meals service – evening meals, traditional English breakfasts, and packed lunches, home-cooked food, varied menus, vegetarian options always available.

Telephone the Youth Hostel for availability. Bookings should be confirmed by either sending payment or by credit card over the telephone. Provisional bookings will be held for 7 days pending payment.

Directions:

  • By road:
    2.5 miles south of Abinger Hammer on A25 between Guildford and Dorking.
    Follow the signs to Holmbury St. Mary on B2126.
    Radnor Lane is on right about 0.5 miles north of the village.
  • By rail:
    Gomshall Station 3 miles. Turn right out of station and take the B2126 from Abinger Hammer village. Follow directions by road.
  • By bus:
    Bus 21 from Guildford Bus Station – ask for Woodhouse Cottage, as many drivers do not know the hostel. Small sign when you get off directing you to the hostel, followed by a short walk.
