The likelihood of you becoming a victim of crime whilst out and about is actually very low, but you can make yourself even less likely to be a victim:
Transport
- When waiting for a bus or train stay near people.
- Sit near the driver of the bus or in a carriage with lots of people on a train if you feel worried.
- If you use a taxi carry a trusted taxi firm's number with you that you already know.
- Never use unlicensed taxis hailed from the road.
Out and about
-
Carry some spare money in case of emergencies.
-
Try to spread any valuables around your body. An example of this is keeping your phone in your bag, your wallet in your pocket, and your keys in your jacket.
-
Try not to flash your valuables about!
-
Try to look and act confident - look like you know where you are going and walk tall.
-
When walking or jogging, stay alert and don't listen to music through headphones as you might not hear trouble coming.
-
If you ever need help while out and about try to approach a family rather than a single person.
-
Never leave your drink unattended. If you think it has been touched then leave it and get another one.
