Community cash up for grabs: council grant scheme open (press release)

4 December 2008

Young people who stand out from the crowd - in art or sport - and community organisations that need some help can apply for a cash boost thanks to Guildford Borough Council’s special grant schemes.

Says Lead Councillor for People and Partnership, Cllr Jen Powell: “Each year we give financial assistance to local organisations and gifted individuals. Our grants are available to help young people of outstanding sporting or artistic ability, and local organisations to buy equipment or run an activity, for example. We also help local projects like village halls, community centres and sporting facilities to encourage more residents to get involved in arts, play and sport”.

People can apply now for the grants, for:

  • Arts, Play and Sport - for projects and activities and young individuals of outstanding sporting and artistic ability.
  • Community and Youth - for organisations in the borough to provide equipment or improve facilities for young people or community buildings.

For more information on Council grants for arts, play, sports and community projects, visit the funding and grants pages or call Mike Beckwith, Leisure Strategy Officer, on 01483 444703.

Application forms must be returned by 9 January 2009. The grants are available from April 2009.
