Inspired to get out in your garden this summer? Come along to Compost Heaven in Guildford on Saturday 9 May and you can pick up free compost and tips to help your garden grow.
Probably the UK’s largest composting event, with over 2000 people in attendance last year, this year’s Grow Your Own theme is likely to draw even bigger crowds.
Jane Alexander, Recycling Coordinator says: "Compost Heaven is the ideal place for new composters to pick up tips and experienced gardeners will be inspired. And it’s the greenest day out for families! Growing Your Own reduces waste, saves resources and promotes health - you can’t eat fresher food than something you’ve picked yourself the same day!"
Schools across the borough have signed up to win £300 by growing an inspiring, fun and edible container display of veggies, herbs, fruit or flowers. Entries will be judged at Compost Heaven for gardening skills, creativity, excitement and use of recycled materials. The eco garden also will be packed full of inspiring ideas.
Free compost and composters, live jazz, juggling and hot composting tips are just a few of the regular attractions. For kids there will be free workshops, bee-keeping demos and working wormeries. Adults can get their secateurs sharpened, make a willow tepee for the garden and sample some delicious recipes made from leftovers. There’s even free homemade cake and tea.
Compost Heaven takes place between 11am and 2pm on Saturday 9 May 2009 at Burchatt’s Farm Barn, London Road, Guildford GU1 1TU. Entry is free and there’s plenty of free parking. Compost Heaven is organised by Guildford Community Recyclers in conjunction with Guildford Allotment Society and Guildford Borough Council.
This initiative is part of Guildford Borough Council's commitment to improving residents’ local surroundings, by focusing on issues that matter most to them such as a cleaner, safer and greener environment.
Please note: Free compost and composters are available to Guildford residents only while stocks last.
