Garden waste collection renewals

We have identified an administrative error on some letters we have sent out for garden waste collection renewals. We would like to confirm that the correct payment for this year is £15 for two bags, £30 for three bags and £45 for four bags. If you are paying online, by phone or by cheque, please pay these amounts.

For those customers with an error in their letter, please accept our apologies for any confusion.

The kitchen caddy and outside food bin

   Kitchen caddy

The kitchen caddy is a handy, compact container that has been designed for you to keep in your kitchen and is for all types of food waste, both cooked and raw. You can even scrape uneaten food from your plate straight into the kitchen caddy.

What can I put in my kitchen caddy?

  • Meat and fish - raw and cooked including bones.
  • All shells from shellfish, nuts and eggs.
  • All dairy products such as eggs and cheese.
  • Raw and cooked vegetable and fruit.
  • Bread, cake and pastries.
  • Rice, pasta and beans.
  • Uneaten food from your plates and dishes.
  • Tea bags and tea and coffee grounds.

What can't I put in my kitchen caddy?

  • Packaging of any sort.
  • Plastic liners.
  • Liquids.
  • Oil or liquid fat.

You can line the caddy with newspaper to keep it clean. Do not use plastic liners as they will not rot down in the composting process.

If you want to continue using biodegradable food waste liners instead of newspaper they are available from a number of local retail outlets.

When your caddy is full, transfer the contents to your larger outside food-waste collection bin. Please do not put the small caddy inside the green caddy.

Outside food-waste collection bin
Use this bin to store your food outside between collections and present it for collection by 7am on your collection day. To help stop pests, you can lock the bin by moving the handle forward, as shown below.

Remember, using the food waste collection service will prevent problems of smells and vermin in your wheeled bin for the rubbish that cannot be recycled or composted.

If you find one caddy is not enough we can supply additional caddies.
