Financial assistance for landlords

Assistance to landlords is available in four areas:

• Fire precautions in houses in multiple occupation.
• Affordable warmth initiatives e.g. insulation, improved heating etc.
• Works to bring empty homes back into use with nomination rights offered to the council.
• Renewable technology (this assistance is also available to you in your own home).

From 1 April 2011 Landlords may apply for assistance under the Home Trust Loan scheme.   This loan scheme is supported by the council, further details are on the Home Trust Loan pages on this site.  Assistance for installing renewable technology is through our own renewable technology loan.

Landlords installing energy efficiency measures may, in addition, be able to apply for tax breaks in the form of Landlords Energy Savings Allowance. For more information, contact HM Revenue and Customs.

If you receive assistance, you must let the dwelling as a residence to someone unrelated to you for five years. This condition does not apply to the renewable technology loan. If the condition is not met, or the property is sold or ownership transferred within this period, the loan must be repaid.
