Beating the credit crunch - Guildford Business Forum and local businesses join forces

Experts from the local business community joined forces with Guildford Borough Council, GBF (Guildford Business Forum) and Surrey Chambers of Commerce on Tuesday 31 March 2009. Together we held a special event to help businesses prepare and protect themselves during the current economic downturn.

The free Beat the Credit Crunch seminar was attended by a wide range of local businesses all looking for information and practical advice on how best to survive the challenging economic times.

Advice from key speakers included:

  • handling business rate increases,
  • the importance of reducing overheads,
  • HR issues,
  • and solving cash flow problems.

This was followed by the opportunity for attendees to receive more tailored advice in the form of free, one-to-one advice sessions.

Christine Goodyear of Barlow Robbins LLP, one of the events key speakers, commented, "One outstanding feature of the current climate is how willing people are to help others. There is a real sense that pulling together will help us get through these difficult times. A thriving local business community is vital for the well being of our town and we hope that the seminar will have played its part in increasing awareness of the help on offer."

Christine Goodyear is also chairman of the Professional Sector Group of the GBF which played a major role in organising the seminar.
