Countryside events 2012The Countryside Team organise a number of events during the year on our open spaces. Events currently confirmed for 2012 are listed below.All events are free and are run either by our staff or by local experts.
Some events require you to book so that we are aware of numbers, but where booking is not mentioned, you are more than welcome to just come along. When booking please let us have a contact phone number in case of any unforseen problems. If you have any questions or would like to book a place, please contact the Parks and Countryside team. Countryside Events 2012Tree Trail at Onslow Arboretum - Thursday 12th April 11am-3pm A chance to explore the arboretum and learn how to identify the varied trees with the Countryside Wardens. No need to book. Spring Bird Song Walk at Riverside Nature Reserve - Saturday 26th May 8am-10am Join our birdsong expert on a gentle 3 mile walk around the reserve and along the river identifying the spring birds from their songs. If you have binoculars please bring them and wear suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear. Meet at the Bowers Lane car park, off Clay Lane, GU4 7ND. Nightlife at Chantry Wood - Thursday 7th June 8:45pm-10:30pm Join the Parks and Countryside team and guest specialist to look at the bats and moths that are found on the Five Fields and through the woods. Booking is essential as places are limited. Sturdy footwear, a torch and suitable outdoor clothing are required. Meet at Chantry Wood Campsite, access off Halfpenny Lane. Nearest post code to vehicle entrance is GU4 8PZ. Parking will be signposted and is available on the campsite for this event only. Access via unmade track. Night Flights at Lakeside Nature Reserve - Saturday 21st July 8:45pm-10pm Join the Parks and Countryside team for a chance to see and hear bats in your local park. A friendly 2 mile bat walk for all the family. Bring a torch, warm clothing and suitable footwear for rough ground. Booking is essential as places are limited. Meet at the car park on Lakeside Road, Ash GU12 5AF. Nightlife at Pewley Down - Thursday 26th July 8:45-10:30pm Join the Parks and Countryside team and guest specialist to look at the moths, glow worms and bats that are found on the downs. Booking is essential as places are limited. Sturdy footwear, a torch and suitable outdoor clothing are required. Meet at the entrance at the top of Pewley Hill, GU1 3SN. Nightlife at Riverside Nature Reserve - Thursday 9th August 8:45pm-10:30pm Join the Parks and Countryside team and guest specialist to look at the moths and bats that are found on the reserve. Booking is essential as places are limited. Sturdy footwear, a torch and suitable outdoor clothing are required. Meet at the Bowers Lane car park, off Clay Lane, GU4 7ND. Heritage Open Weekend at Merrow Down - Saturday 8th September Full details to be confirmed. Heritage Open Weekend at Riverside Nature Reserve, Stoke and Parsonage Water Meadows Full details to be confirmed. Nightlife at Shalford Water Meadows - Thursday 13th September 7:30pm-9:30pm Join the Parks and Countryside team and guest specialist to look at the moths and bats that are found on the meadows. Booking is essential as places are limited. Sturdy footwear, a torch and suitable outdoor clothing are required. Meet at the entrance at the Scout Hut car park, Shalford Common, Shalford Road. Nearest post code GU4 8DE. Fungi Foray at Chantry Wood - Sunday 30th October 10am-midday Join the Countryside team and guest specialist to look at the fungi found at Chantry Wood at this free event. Booking is essential as places are very limited (maximum of 15 in the group). Sturdy footwear and suitable outdoor clothing are required. To book a place please contact the team on the details below.
