Composting garden waste in your own garden is by far the most environmentally friendly way of dealing with this material. If you are unable to compost all of your garden waste at home, you can join a fortnightly garden waste collection scheme, available to Guildford residents. Reusable garden waste sacks are supplied for you to fill and are collected fortnightly from your kerbside.
The prices are as follows:

When will my garden waste be collected?
Garden waste collections take place on the same day of the week as your recycling collections, but are fortnightly, not weekly. Your road will have been allocated either a purple or orange collection week, this information is printed on the bottom of your red collection vouchers.
-
What happens to my garden waste?
Your bags will be emptied into a dedicated vehicle and sent to a composting plant, to be recycled into compost.
-
Why should I bother joining the scheme?
The government has recently introduced new legislation requiring local authorities to drastically reduce the amount of garden waste sent to landfill. This is because this type of waste causes serious problems when landfilled. It produces large amounts of methane and also leachate, which can pollute groundwater. Space left in landfill sites is also rapidly running out. Therefore using the garden waste collection scheme is one way that you can help look after the environment.
Please note that garden waste placed in refuse sacks will no longer be collected.
