Guildford Borough Council provides Maps Online/PlanAccess for information purposes; all information is for indicative use only. The Ordnance Survey mapping in Maps Online/PlanAccess is provided by Guildford Borough Council in order to fulfill its public function to make information available, as part of the Council’s e-government strategy. Persons viewing this mapping should contact the Ordnance Survey for advice where they wish to licence Ordnance Survey map data for their own use. To use Maps Online/PlanAccess
Maps OnLine/PlanAccess will load with an overview map of the Guildford Borough Council area, with the Points of Interest theme available. The Points of Interest select buttons will take you to one of the points listed; use the Info Tool button to query information on the symbol for the Point of Interest.

• Use the Themes button to display the Themes currently available in Maps Online/PlanAccess
  
• A cartographic legend will appear on screen for the theme you have selected, and the map window will display data for this Theme - use the Info Tool to query any data on the map in the current Theme. If there is a hyperlink icon in one of the resulting text fields, please click on this to access further information. For example, an Information click in the GBC Local Plan Theme will show any Local Plan policies at that point; the resulting text will give the Local Plan Policy name and number; a click on the hyperlink icon will open a window with the relevant chapter of the GBC Local Plan for the Policy; this will require Adobe Acrobat Reader, available from  http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
  
• Use the Address Search facility to search for an address anywhere in the Borough (using address details or postcode in the search fields). When you have selected an address, the map will zoom to this. Use the zoom in, zoom out, and pan the map buttons at the base of the screen to move around the map
  
• The Overview Map facility allows the user to draw an area on the overview map, the main map will then zoom to this area
  
• There is also an online Help in Maps Online/PlanAccess
  
• The Print Map facility will put the current map view into a template for printing. Please take note of the Ordnance Survey Copyright Statement above the map
  
• The Find Nearest facility is currently available for the Recycling Centres in the GBC area, Guildford Town Car Parks, Points of Interest, Halls for Hire, and Emergency Sandbags Themes; however this facility will work for these Themes even if you are looking at another Theme in the map area – selected Find Nearest Theme data will appear superimposed on the Theme you currently have open in the Find Nearest windows
  
• Use Clear Find Nearest to remove the Find Nearest results from your screen
  
• The Map Key button will show the Map Key for the current Theme in a pop up window
  
• The Zoom to Extents button will zoom to Extents of the map - you may need to zoom back in again after using this

Technical Issues

• Maps Online/PlanAccess is designed to be used with Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 and Netscape version 4.0 and above
  
• Maps Online/PlanAccess should work effectively with Internet connection speeds from 56kbps dial up to Broadband
  
• Maps Online/PlanAccess uses pop up windows, for example to display text information resulting from an Info click at any point on the map in a specific Theme. To view these pop up windows you will need to ensure that you have switched off any 'anti pop up' software you have set up on your PC; if the pop up windows cannot be viewed Maps Online/PlanAccess will not show details as required
  
• If there is no map displayed in the map area in Maps Online/PlanAccess you may need to download free Java Runtime Environment software to be able to view the maps. This is available at  http://www.java.com/en. Please note that this may take some time to download and install
