Translation and interpretation service information

We believe all members of the community have an equal right to access the information and services provided by the Council. We provide a translation and interpretation service so that people who do not use English as their first language or who have a disability can access our services.

We use the following translation and interpretation services:

• Telephone interpreting (24 hours)
• Text translation from English to over 130 languages
• Text translation to large print, Braille or audiotape
• Sign language for the deaf and other services for the deaf and hearing impaired (see below)

Arranging for an interpreter to help

If you visit a council office or have an appointment to see a council officer, you can request an interpreter. You will not have to pay for the interpreter. All interpreters are trained and follow a code of practice that includes the need for confidentiality.

Help for the deaf and hearing impaired 

Sign language support of the deaf and hearing impaired is available from the Surrey Interpreting Agency (SIA), part of the Deaf Services team. As well as sign language support, the SIA provide Guildford Borough Council with note takers, lip readers / speakers and other facilities. Please contact us using the details below if you are deaf or hearing impaired and need help accessing our services. Please be aware that we need notice that you or someone you represent will require sign language support.
