About

A stunning 5-Star Gold boutique bed & breakfast, plus four exquisite self-catering properties, in the heart of the quintessential English village of Ripley near Guildford in Surrey.

Lovingly renovated by owner Mindi McLean, the B&B is set within a 200-year-old property and offers luxurious characterful accommodation with modern comforts. Each en-suite bedroom has been individually decorated with Farrow & Ball paint, quality fabrics, eclectic antiques and carefully curated predominantly British art to enhance its individual character.

The four self-catering period cottages, rated four and five stars by VisitEngland, have had a similar makeover and are available with no minimum stay.

Owner Mindi is a passionate foodie and her love of cooking is reflected in the outstanding cooked breakfasts served at Broadway Barn, which have been awarded a special Breakfast Accolade from VisitEngland. She grows much of the produce served including fruits for her wide selection of homemade jams and a variety of vegetables. A choice of five homemade breads are available, all made by Mindi using locally grown and milled flour. Locally grown and pressed apple juice is also served and even the pork in the chipolatas is from her own pigs that are reared locally. Mindi often makes the butter served at the B&B and there is always homemade granola, fruit compote, baked ham and fresh hollandaise for Eggs Benedict.

About the area

Ripley is a delightful English village in the heart of Surrey, close to Guildford and within easy reach of central London and Heathrow and Gatwick Airports. There are numerous visitor attractions nearby including the RHS gardens at Wisley, a choice of National Trust stately homes, Thorpe Park, Legoland and Mercedes-Benz World to name but a few. Popular with walkers and cyclists, the area is also home to a large number of golf courses, making it an ideal destination for an active break. Unexpectedly, this quaint foodie village is also a hub for the music industry – Eric Clapton was born and raised just behind Broadway Barn and Paul Weller has a studio nearby – and Broadway Barn has discreetly welcomed many prominent figures from the music industry since it opened in 2013.

Most romantic B&B or self-catering breaks in Surrey/England/UK

Combine a night or two at Broadway Barn with dinner next door at The Clock House restaurant (awarded 3 AA Rosettes) for a memorable romantic getaway. Each room has been individually designed with unparalleled comfort and luxury in mind. Think period features, Farrow & Ball paint, Mulberry fabrics, eclectic antiques and carefully curated predominantly British art. Broadway Barn is the only 5-Star Gold B&B in the area and makes a perfect country getaway within easy reach of London, complete with a roaring log fire in winter.

Foodie breaks

Broadway Barn B&B is renowned for its outstanding breakfasts, which include many products that are grown and/or made by the owner. All five properties in the Broadway Barn portfolio are in the heart of the foodie village of Ripley, home to The Clock House restaurant (awarded 3 AA Rosettes), The Anchor pub (2 AA Rosettes) and Nest, the café next door which serves delicious lunches and afternoon treats. The village is also home to Cellar Wine, a boutique wine shop and deli that holds regular wine tastings and events, along with a popular farmers’ market on the second Saturday of the month, selling locally produced wine, gin, cheese, meat and artisan bakery products. Tours can also be organised at the nearby vineyards of Albury and Denbies, along with a visit to the Silent Pool artisan gin distillery.

Walking, cycling and action breaks

Cycling has been a popular activity in Ripley since the 1870s and Ripley was a main stop on the 2012 Olympic cycling route from London to Surrey. During the 2012 Games the British team could be found taking a break on Broadway Barn’s driveway enjoying a coffee from Nest, the café next door. On 31st July 2017, thousands of cyclists will pass through Ripley as part of the annual Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 which celebrates the Olympics’ cycling legacy. The area surrounding Broadway Barn is terrific cycling and walking country with a wide choice of scenic routes on the doorstep, and cycling groups will be pleased to hear that up to eight cycles can be stored at Broadway Barn by prior arrangement. Thrill-seekers may of course favour the adrenaline rush of nearby Mercedes-Benz World, Thorpe Park or Chessington World of Adventures.

Golf breaks

Broadway Barn Properties makes an ideal base for a golf break in Surrey, with world-renowned Wentworth, Wisley, Silvermere, St George’s Hill and many other courses within a 30-minute radius. Golf clubs can be stored on the premises upon request.

Historic house & garden breaks

Green-fingered guests will delight in talking to Mindi, the owner of Broadway Barn, who is passionate about gardening and home-grown produce. In fact, the garden of Broadway Barn’s self-catering cottages at 7 & 9 Rose Lane is open to the public as part of the National Garden Scheme on 10th June 2017, with proceeds going to charity. The Royal Horticultural Society’s world famous garden at Wisley is close by, along with Painshill Park and Loseley Park, while The National Trust properties of Clandon, Hatchlands, Polesden Lacey, Claremont Landscape Gardens and Ham House are all within easy reach.

Combine a luxurious stay at Broadway Barn with lunch or dinner at The  Clock House Restaurant next door, holder of a coveted Michelin star, and enjoy a complimentary glass of  champagne.

Broadway Barn is the ideal destination for a foodie break, offering luxurious accommodation and award-winning gourmet breakfasts. Set in the picturesque village of Ripley, there is a choice of fantastic restaurants virtually on the doorstep, as well as many other attractions including the world-famous RHS garden at Wisley, a host of National Trust properties, Mercedes-Benz World and Thorpe Park.
