Book a Guided Walk
Book a guided walk around Guildford with your group
The best way for a group to explore Guildford town is through the eyes of one of our experienced and friendly Guildford Town Guides - who will lead you on a walk back through 1000 years of history, and make Guildford of old come alive.
Group Tours for Adults
The Guildford Town Guides will take group bookings throughout the year. A donation of £3 per person is requested on pre-booked private walks. Walks are available for large or small groups (minimum 6 people, maximum 20 people. For numbers more than 20, the group will be split into two smaller groups to make sure you have the best experience, and can hear the guide)
Walks around Guildford can be tailored for people with disabilities and are available anytime throughout the year, except around Christmas, New Year or Heritage Open Weekend.
The most popular walk is the Historic Guildford walk but you can discuss your needs in advance with the Guides to ensure the subject matter suits the interests of your group - choose from:
- Ghosts and Legends
- Public Art
- Lewis Carroll
- Medieval Guildford
- Victorian Architects
- Hidden Guildford
- Georgian Guildford
- Victorian Guildford
- River Wey and St Catherine's
- Pubs and Inns
- Old Industries
- George Abbott
- Alan Turing
- Gruesome Ghastly Guildford
- Kings, Worthies and Scoundrels
- Made in Guildford
Walks usually take approximately 90 minutes.
Walk through 1000 years of history and discover both the peace and quiet of the castle gardens and the bustle of the lively High Street. See the stunning castle grounds and find out why Lewis Carroll was here so frequently - perhaps even go inside a 700 year old Undercroft - these walks bring Guildford's heritage to life.
From May to September the Guildford Town Guides put on several free guided walks each week - and as a group you would be more than welcome to join one of these walks - however they do leave promptly and you should think about how many are in your group and whether it will be a comfortable experience if the group is too large.
The Historic Guildford Walk is ideal for school groups - and the enthusiastic guides are keen to share the town's hidden treasures with learners. Tours can be tailored to suit topics covered in the curriculum and can include any period of history from medieval to present day. For more detail go to our School Visits page
