Allen House Grounds is a hidden gem located in Guildford town centre. The peaceful gardens are ideal for escaping the hustle and bustle of town.

Opening hours

Allen House Grounds are open daily from 8.30am until dusk.

Parking

There is no dedicated car park at Allen House.

York Road Car Park can be directly accessed on foot from the grounds.

Allen House Grounds is located in Guildford town centre a short walk from the High Street. 

You can access the grounds from Chertsey Street, Eastgate Gardens or direct from York Road car park.

Allen house grounds is Green Flag award winner. The awards scheme is the national benchmark standard. It recognises well managed parks and green spaces. To win, parks must meet high standards and have excellent facilities. Lewis Carroll themed garden

The family garden is themed from the Lewis Carroll poem 'The Jabberwocky'.

In the garden you will find: 

  • low level maze
  • musical drums
  • dragon mosaic
  • circular patio and seating
  • words from the poem engraved on paving slabs

Hideaway café

The Hideaway is a brand new social enterprise café in Allen House Grounds. The café is an initiative of the Matrix Trust, a local youth work charity. Here you can buy hot and cold drinks and delicious sweet and savoury food.

Friends of Allen House Grounds

What is a friends group?

The friends group is a collection of people who value their local parks and open spaces. They want to enhance their local parks to meet the needs of the local community. The group is a strong link between the council and residents. It's a way for residents to share their views and ideas about the future of the park. This will help inform the council about local needs.

What can friends groups do?

  • discuss views and concerns about the park
  • raise issues about maintenance or improvements 
  • produce your own leaflets, newsletters or history of the park pamphlet
  • set up a website or social media page about your park and the Friends activities
  • organise events such as bulb and tree planting, clear-up days or picnics
  • apply for grants for some of the things above
